Glenn Miller and his orchestra at Barvikha Luxury Village

American trombonist and arranger Glenn Miller arranged the orchestra in 1937. From the first years of performing, the Orchestra was torn apart between numerous of rehearsals, live radio shows and late concerts. Meanwhile, the band successfully recorded and released more than 200 new musical compositions. Many reached a status of jazz classics, and Chattanooga Choo Choo became a first ever single to receive a gold record for sales of more than 1 million copies.

Glenn Miller and His Orchestra recorded music for two motion pictures ‘Sun Valley Serenade’ and ‘Orchestra Wives’ that brought the band an international success and even more popularity. ‘Serenade’ was nominated thrice for an Oscar Award.

The movies’ and its music’s influence was acknowledged by dozens of Russian musicians and film directors, including Oleg Lundstrem, Boris Grebenshchikov, Andrey Konchalovskiy and Anatoliy Vasilyev. Back in USSR, Chattanooga Choo Choo, or Choo-Cha, became an unofficial hymn of Soviet Styliagy.

The Orchestra director Will Salden says: ‘We are pleased that thanks to the success of Rob Marshall’s ‘Chicago’ and Damien Chazelle’s ‘La La Land’, jazz music regains attention of millions of listeners. Our new concerts in Moscow are dedicated to the band’s anniversary, for which we tried to prepare a special program to surprise fans of Glenn Miller’s creations’.
